This piece reflected back on how my final piece was going to appear, the pattern I created with the pennies was to imitate wood in a way using a continuous pattern of an upward angle with the height and even colors used to imitate the surrounding bookshelves of where my piece is installed. The choice of the area was to emphasize cost, the cost of material, production, and financial expenses in anything we do. Apart from wanting to imitate wood, the placement of this piece is beside the economics and financing books to repercuss on the face value of money and cost. The use of pennies in art can signify a lot and turn something so simple into much more. In this case the use of pennies was to reflect back on value. How each penny was place upon the board there was a symbolic meaning towards the placement. If you pay close attention with the use of the old pennies, I placed in a carelessness manner to bring attention to how undervalued these coins are just because they are old. With the newer shiny ones I was more careful with the placement of the newer ones, placing them with such care of all sitting the same direction to emphasize society and how society tends to value things by looks when in fact no matter how old or new something is, it will always have the same value cost.
